Essential Oils for Relaxation and Sleep

Essential Oils for Relaxation and Sleep

Scent is a wonderful alternative to any drug targeted at relaxation, making aromatherapy a powerful treatment for relaxation and sleep.
Scientists have discovered that the scent penetrates through tiny holes in the nose, and heads directly to the brain.
The signals sent to the brain as a cause of this, are shown to have a great effect on influencing mood and memory, which is why we can all experience feelings and memories when we smell something familiar.

Essential oils for relaxation and sleep are plentiful, and aromatherapy is now one of the most commonly used alternative therapies for easing stress, relaxing after a long day, and preparing for sleep.

Salts & Co have developed a wide range of products that aid relaxation and sleep, including soothing bath salts and relaxing pillow mists.

Here are some examples of essential oils for relaxation and sleep, used by us at Salts & Co in many of our products;

Lemongrass
Lemongrass is a wonderfully delicate essential oil, that when blended with other relaxing essential oils such as Lavender and Peppermint – like in our Epsom bath salt blend ‘Relax‘, makes for a calming experience. Our bath salts with lemongrass are the ideal way to unwind and prepare the body and mind for sleep.

Lavender
Lavender essential oil is a long time favourite of many thanks to it’s versatility. We use a lot of Lavender essential oils in our Salts & Co relaxation products, and is not only good for aiding sleep, but it is good for the skin too. We have several Lavender blends of bath salts in our range, as well as Lavender pillow mists that help aid sleep.

Bergamot
Bergamot has been shown to lower the heart rate, and therefore is another popular essential oil for use in relaxing bath products, pillow sprays and massage oils. We have blended Bergamot with Lavender essential oil in one of our relaxing pillow sprays, which can instantly transform your bed into a place of peace.

Ylang Ylang
Another relaxing essential oil that can lower the heart rate, lower blood pressure and calm the mood is Ylang Ylang. Ylang Ylang is floral in nature, and when blended with gentle rose, creates a wonderful uplifting and relaxing scent.

Jasmine
Jasmine is quite an expensive essential oil, however it is worth every penny to us for it’s uplifting gentle floral scent, and relaxing effect of the mind and body. Jasmine is a beautiful scent to enjoy in the evening, when unwinding, and preparing for sleep. Jasmine is included in our ‘Love‘ blend of Epsom bath salts, which is a lovely relaxing bathsoak.

Frankincense
Frankincense essential oil is widely known to calm the mind and reduce anxiety. It is also associated with aiding digestive complaints, which can often appear as a result of stress. We use Frankincense in our Dead Sea salt ‘Winter‘ blend of bath salts, along side warming and relaxing Ginger and Juniper, and you will also find it in some of our Epsom Bath Salt products for relaxation too.
